An Affton woman died in a crash Thursday at Interstate 55 and Union Road.

Rhonda Weedman, 57, of the 9000 block of Villa Ridge Court, 63123, was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead following a crash that happened around 6:41 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the intersection of Interstate 55 with Union and Reavis Barracks roads. The crash was shown in video posted from bystanders to social media.

Weedman was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu and was exiting Interstate 55 northbound onto Reavis Barracks Road when she hit the median, went airborne over the median into a parking lot across the intersection at an auto body shop and struck two parked vehicles, two electric signal boxes and the building, according to the police account.

The car finally came to rest in an overturned position.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

Bystander video showed the car narrowly missing another car that was turning into the intersection.

The South County Precinct and the St. Louis County Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit are leading the investigation into the crash.
