William A. Edens, an Army first lieu-tenant and 1993 Mehlville Senior High School graduate, died April 28 while serving in Iraq.

Lt. Edens, 29, was killed when his Stryker armored vehicle struck a roadside bomb. Three other soldiers in the vehicle also were killed.

A 2003 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Lt. Edens had en-rolled in the Reserve Officers’ Train-ing Corps while in college.

At Mehlville, Edens, participated on the swimming and water polo teams.

Survivors include his wife, Christina M. Edens (nee Obrecht); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ken and Karen Obrecht; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Michelle and Lance Chapman and Jill and Eric Barton.

Services were conducted at Mary Mother of the Church. Visitation was at Kutis South County Chapel. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
