Two St. Louis city residents were charged Tuesday for multiple felonies related to vehicle highjacking in Sunset Hills.

Steven Jaminson, 34, of the 2900 block of Rutger Street, and Denise Heggins, 29, of the 7700 block of Vermon Avenue, were each charged with vehicle highjacking and stealing $750 or more. Both are class B and class D felonies, respectively.

According to a release from the Sunset Hills Police Department, the charges stem from an incident that occurred July 6 in the 10800 block of Sunset Hills Plaza.  At approximately 4:47 p.m., Jaminson and Heffins committed a theft at Marshalls in Sunset Hills Plaza.

After the theft, the pair attempted to forcibly take a vehicle from a victim parked in the parking lot. No weapons were used or displayed.

While struggling with Heggins and Jaminson, the victim was able to hit the panic button in their vehicle, alerting nearby citizens who notified the police and helped the victim.

Jaminson and Heggins fled the scene on foot and were apprehended by responding Sunset Hills police officers.

Both Heggins and Jaminson are being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $25,000 bond.
