Because of the bitter cold, County Executive Steve Stenger has called for the opening of warming centers at the Affton Community Center at 9801 MacKenzie Road and the St. Vincent Community Center at 7335 St. Charles Rock Road.

The centers will be open daily from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. through Friday. Meals will be provided, along with sleeping accommodations and medical care.

“Please spread the word about our warming centers to those in need of shelter,” Stenger stated in a news release. “Our staff is dedicated to the safety and well-being of everyone, and the centers will be open this winter when the temperature is 20 degrees or colder.”
