UPDATED: Sunset Hills man killed in five-vehicle accident

A Sunset Hills man was killed in a five-vehicle accident that occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Tesson Ferry Road and Suson Hills Drive.

Police identified the victim Thursday as William Ferrell, 88, of Sunset Hills.

Ferrell’s vehicle was traveling northbound on Tesson Ferry when it crossed into southbound lanes of traffic, hitting a vehicle, said St. Louis County Police Department spokesman Shawn McGuire. After hitting that vehicle, the victim’s vehicle stayed in the southbound lanes of traffic and was struck by a dump truck, police report.

Two men and one juvenile were injured and transported to a hospital, according to police. As of the time of the crash, none of the three other victims were in critical condition, McGuire said. He added that he was under the impression Ferrell was in his car by himself, and the other victims were in the other vehicles he hit.

The St. Louis County Crimes Against Persons Unit and Accident Reconstruction Team were notified and are completing an investigation, but no further details were available Thursday.
