Two local post offices no longer are being considered for possible elimination by the U.S. Postal Service.

Post offices at South County Center and Crestwood Court will remain open, according to the USPS.

The Postal Service initially included the two locations in its nationwide review of hundreds of branches for possible consolidation. It cited a projected sharp decline in mail volume from 2008 to 2009 due to the recession and more consumers using the Web to send messages and pay bills than traditional mail.

Two other county branches originally on that list — the St. Louis Galleria in Richmond Heights and 8555 Airport Road in Berkeley — also will remain open.
