Five people were injured in a house fire Sunday morning in South County, with four of them — two children and two adults — transported to area hospitals, with one child critically injured.

St. Louis County Police officers from the South County Precinct responded to a call for a house fire at roughly 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, in the 700 block of Regina Avenue in Lemay.

The house was on fire when officers arrived. The Lemay Fire Protection District, Mehlville Fire Protection District, Affton Fire Protection District and the St. Louis Fire Department responded to the scene and put out the fire.

Five people were inside the home. One 7-year-old child was taken to a local hospital with injuries that police described as critical but non-life threatening. An 18-month-old child and two adult men were taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, according to police. One adult woman had minor injuries and was not transported by paramedics.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit and the St. Louis County Crime Scene Unit.
