Troop 96 Girl Scouts earn Marian Award

Members of Seven Holy Founders Girl Scout Troop 96 recently received a Proclamation and Resolution from the County Council commending the girls on their Marian Award service.

The 15 troop members earning the Mar- ian Award medal were: Brittany Barbeau, Jennifer Dueker, Julie Finder, Melanie Medved, Haley O’Toole, Brittany Pallme, Cara Papavramides, Margaret Potts, Courtney Quinn, Brittany Roberts, Andria Seymour, Courtney Sheets, Emily Stahl, Allison Waeltermann and Kelly Zahn.

Troop leaders Cindy Pallme and Karen Medved were the adult moderators helping the girls earn this award.

County Council Chairman Kurt Odenwald introduced the proclamation and it was unanimously approved by the council.

Odenwald and County Executive Charlie Dooley presented the troop with a framed proclamation and a framed resolution. Each girl also received an individual copy of the resolution signed by the council.

The activities to earn the Marian Award demonstrate the importance of Mary for all generations and cultures and instill in girls the value of service to others in their church and community. They follow Mary’s life through Scripture as she becomes a woman and the Mother of God while also learning more about themselves.

Some of the service work that the girls performed to earn this award included helping the Angels’ Arms foster home by preparing a dinner, donating personal care items and giving Christmas gifts to the children. The girls also helped with service in their parish by cleaning church pews, working at the Breakfast with Santa, babysitting, and planning and participating in the Girl Scouts Awards Mass.

They also visited Our Lady of the Snows and donated money to the shrine.
