Thunder roars in Omaha tourney

Johnny Mac Blue Thunder starting pitcher Andy Rathmann threw a two-hitter in an 11-1 win in five innings against the Omaha South American Legion baseball team in the final game of the Battle of Central Omaha Tournament.

Rathmann, 2-1, struck out nine and walked four to win his second game. He carries a 4.26 earned run average.

“He pitched a very good ballgame,” Johnny Mac manager Jim Muskopf told the Call. “That was his second complete ballgame this season.”

Designated hitter Dan Fitzgerald went 2-4 against Omaha South as his double in the third inning scored the first two of six runs in that inning.

“Dan’s our leading RBI man,” Muskopf explained. “We rotate between the right field, DH and pitching positions.”

Second baseman Josh Garcia also had a solid day at the plate as he went 1-3 in which his double during the third inning drove in the Thunder’s fifth and sixth runs.

“He really puts the wood on the ball,”Muskopf said.

Up next for the Blue Thunder is a Thursday evening double header against the Saint Louis Tigers at the Affton Athletic Association ballpark.

“They (Tigers) are the only league team that we’ve not played,” Muskopf explained.

The double header against the Saint Louis Tigers will begin at 6 p.m.
