Teacher of the Year, Support Staff Person of the Year honored by Lindbergh board

Resolutions honoring the 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Person of the Year were unanimously approved last week by the Lindbergh Board of Education.

Marilyn Callahan was honored as Teacher of the Year while Pauline Gilbers was honored as Support Staff Person of the Year.

Callahan, an art teacher, began her educational career in 1997 and has taught art for four years at Kennerly Elementary School and six years at Lindbergh High School.

Last year, she opened the Hangar Art Gallery in Crestwood Court, where students display and sell their artwork. In addition, Callahan has overseen numerous district activities, including Excellence in Art, the Reeve Lindbergh Poetry Festival, Lindbergh Legacy Project, 80th Anniversary of Lindbergh’s Transatlantic Flight, We the People Picturing America, Bees and Butterflies, Song Birds and more.

Outside of school, Callahan has helped build Habitat for Humanity homes and she has traveled internationally to help those less fortunate.

Gilbers has worked for Lindbergh Schools since 1988 and began her current position as Lindbergh High School Guidance Department secretary in 1997.

During her time at Lindbergh, she has served on many committees, volunteered annually for the Spirit Festival, served as an officer of the Sappington PTO, started “Troop Moms” for Sappington Boy Scouts and played the part of “Mrs. Santa” for Sappington’s traditional breakfast with Santa for many years.

Gilbers is also an active member of the Lindbergh Association of Office Professionals, the St. Louis County Association of Educational Office Professionals and Missouri Association of Educational Office Professionals.

Both women received a reserved parking spot for the 2010-2011 school year as a thank you for their hard work and dedication.
