Suson Park, 6073 Wells Road, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and its final Farm Friday of the year offered the perfect way for children 10 years old and younger to experience all the park has to offer. Among the activities offered last Friday were barn tours, candle making, face painting, fishing lessons, hayrides around the park, pony rides, a scavenger hunt and a puppet show. The park, along with most of its existing buildings and lakes, was purchased from Sidney Salomon Jr. in 1962. Salomon was the owner of Sportsman’s Park, and later, the St. Louis Arena. He also became the first owner of the St. Louis Blues hockey team. The name of the park, which opened in 1964, is derived from the combination of both of his children’s names, Susan and Sonny. Suson Park features three fishing lakes and a working animal farm. The working animal farm remains the park’s most unique feature and showcases most breeds of farm animals, giving visitors a first-hand look at farm life.
