Sunset Hills aldermen consider change in meeting time

The Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen is considering moving its meeting times up to 6 p.m. instead of the usual 7 p.m. start time. The board agreed at a March 28 work session to consider the change when it next meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at City Hall, 3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

For a year, the board has held monthly business meetings and monthly work sessions, and at the suggestion of former Mayor Mark Furrer, the work sessions are held at 6 p.m.

“It was brought to my attention because everyone seems to like the 6:00 work session starting time versus the 7:00 Board of Aldermen session,” Mayor Pat Fribis told aldermen. “This will allow people to get home earlier.”

City code currently mandates that Board of Aldermen meetings are held at 7 p.m., so the change would require writing the time out of city ordinances, City Administrator Eric Sterman said.

Other government entities in south county have also made moves on meeting times lately, including the Mehlville School District, which has moved its meeting times to 6:30 p.m. from its previous 7 p.m. standard time.

At the County Council, some residents have called for years for the council to move its meetings to 7 p.m. from its current 6 p.m. starting time so that residents from around the county can get to Clayton after work.
