Nearly 360 Mehlville School District pupils were able to enhance their reading, writing and math skills for the coming school year by participating in the district’s Elementary Summer Academy. Besides learning important educational concepts, the Summer Academy gave pupils the opportunity to apply these skills to projects that taught them about current events. For example, through their study of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, fourth-grade academy pupils conducted experiments to examine the effects of the leaking oil on the plants and animals that live in the ocean.
