Stephen Wesley Rich, 70, died June 26 at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south county.

Mr. Rich was born in Berywn, Ill., and resided in Oakville for 33 years.

He was retired from the Fox School District, where he was a special education teacher.

Mr. Rich will be remembered for his incredible humor, love of nature education and the arts and devoted service to others.

He was a graduate of Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Mr. Rich was a veteran with an honorable discharge from the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sharon Rich, St. Louis; two sons, Kevin (Eva) Rich, Boulder, Colo., and Steve (Heather) Rich, Fenton; three grandchildren, Liam Rich, Norah Rich and Eloise Rich; siblings, Nancy (John) Herrin, Indianapolis, Ind., Amy (Larry Vaerewyck) Carmody, Chesterton, Ind., and Sarah (Tom) Licata, Huntley, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and services were at Kutis South County Chapel with the Rev. Peter Mead officiating. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

In memory of Mr. Rich, gifts may be sent to the Missouri Botanical Garden.
