St. Philip’s sets open house

St. Philip’s Church of Christ, 10708 Lavinia Drive, Concord Village, will sponsor an open house for the public at its facilities on Palm Sunday, March 20.

St. Philip’s will be open to visitors at 8:30 a.m. The worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m., according to Bob Leber, ministry team facilitator for the event. After the worship service, tours of the facility will be offered. The open house will conclude at noon.

St. Philip’s has been in the community for more than 47 years, beginning as part of the Evangelical and Reformed Tradition that merged with the Congregational Christian Church in the late 1950s, according to a news release. That union formed what is now called the United Church of Christ.

The church is named after Philip, a disciple of Jesus.

One of the gospel writers quoted Philip as having said, “Come and see.” That’s what the Rev. Susan Leary, pastor at St. Philip’s the past seven years, said the church really is extending to the community, a chance to come and see.

Kit Norton, the congregation’s youth programs director agrees and sees a lot of that happening in the growing youth programs at St. Philip’s.

Harry Jennings, the congregation’s Church Council president, stated that church members are working hard to make this an informative event.
