The St. Louis area is under a winter storm warning through Thursday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from noon Feb. 23 through the early hours of Feb. 25 for portions of east central Missouri and south central and southwest Illinois.

Impacted areas in Missouri include St. Louis County, St. Louis City, Jefferson County, Crawford County, Franklin County, St. Charles County and Washington County.

Impacted areas in Illinois include Bond County, Fayette County, Clinton County, Marion County, Washington County, Madison County, and St. Clair – Monroe County.

Heavy mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow accumulations up to 2 inches, sleet accumulations around 1 inch and around one-tenth of an inch of ice accumulations.

The NWS  cautions that roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on hazardous road conditions that could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Persons should delay all travel if possible, but if travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. The NWS recommends keeping an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

In Missouri, the latest road conditions can be obtained at traveler.modot.org/map or by calling 1-888-275-6636. The latest road conditions in Illinois can be obtained at www.gettingaroundillinois.com.
