Members of the public can see the spirits of Sappington House brought to life in the windows of Historic Sappington House Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13.

Webster University students created the special-effect specters for the windows under the instruction of Associate Professor Aaron AuBuchon.

“Webster’s film/television production students partnered with Sappington House costumed volunteers to create videos that place historic characters into the house,” said student producer Dan Flood in a news release. “We were able to create video loops that, when projected on windows, allow visitors to take a visual step back into the past.”

“This has been a practical, effects-driven, fun project,” Flood went on to say in the release.

The spirits will appear on Thursday and Friday nights from 6:30 to 8:30. The spirits will also be available for viewing on Thursday, Oct. 18.

On Oct. 19 and 20, visitors will be welcomed inside Sappington House to see and hear the spirits returned from the dead as they tell their stories.

“Outside the house, it’s the autumn of 2018. Enter and step back 200 years to 1818 as history comes to life,” Spirits of Sappington House creator, Denise Lutes, said in the release. “Experience history where it really happened.”

Dr. John Murphy, the authentic colonial surgeon, will set up his medical practice outside with blooding leeches and rusty hacksaws to entertain visitors.

Lighted lantern tours will be available through Father Dickson Cemetery. Warm s’mores and chilled cider will be served around a bonfire.

The window previews are of no charge. For the Spirits of Sappington House tour on Oct. 19 and 20, the entrance fee is $7 for adults and $1 for children 11 and under.
