The Sunset Hills, Crestwood and Green Park boards of aldermen all recently voted to set the 2024 tax rates for each of their municipalities at recent board meetings.
At a special meeting held Sept. 24, the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen voted to pass the city’s 2024 tax rate. The motion passed 6-1, with Ward 3 Alderman Cathy Friedmann opposed.
Ward 2 Alderman Casey Wong did not vote as he was absent from the meeting.
The rates, per $100 of assessed valuation, are as follows:
Agricultural real estate: $0.064 (no change from last year)
Residential real estate: $0.044 ($0.001 increase from last year)
Commercial real estate: $0.046 (no change from last year)
Personal property: $0.060 (no change from last year)
“The residential tax in the current year versus the residential tax the prior year – the amount of money that’s going to be generated is a very modest increase,” Ward 4 Alderman Fred Daues said. “That’s why I wanted to vote for it as I thought it made good sense. It’s not really raising our citizens’ taxes in any kind of appreciable way, from what I can see.”
The same day, the Crestwood Board of Aldermen passed its 2024 tax rates, though its vote was unanimous, 7-0. Ward 2 Alderman Michael Balles did not vote as he was absent from the meeting.
“This is a yearly exercise, and this is a non-reassessment year, so the only changes to the city’s total assessments really have to do with growth in residential and commercial properties,” Mayor Scott Shipley said. “Also this year, the levy for the Proposition A bond debt service is included and is shown separately, both for transparency and accountability.”
The rates, per $100 of assessed valuation, are as follows:
• Agricultural real estate: $0.00 (no change from last year)
• Residential real estate: $0.5160 (no change from last year)
• Commercial real estate: $0.6990 ($0.002 increase from last year)
• Personal property: $0.7280 (no change from last year)
The proposed debt service tax rates, per $100 of assessed valuation, are as follows:
• Agricultural real estate: $0.00
• Residential real estate: $0.5200
• Commercial real estate: $0.5200
• Personal property: $0.5200
2024 is a non-reassessment year – as reassessment years for the county fall on odd years – accounting for the minimal rate changes for both Sunset Hills and Crestwood.
The Green Park Board of Aldermen also passed its 2024 rates, though differing from its neighbors, it established a $0 levy on all real estate property within the city just as it has in years past. This decision passed unanimously, 6-0.
