Fish with friends | Come down to Watson Trail Park, 12450 West Watson Road, from 8 – 9:30 a.m. for Sunset Hills’ fall Fishing Derby. Anglers of all ages may try for the smallest, largest and most fish caught awards in their age category. Age categories will be 8 and under, 9-14 years old and 15 and older. Anglers will also compete for the ugliest catch (overall). Though this event is free and does not require registration, participants must sign in before the derby starts. Shop ‘til you drop | The 2025 Mehlville Baby Mania Fall Sale will be held in the parking lot of Mehlville High School, 3200 Lemay Ferry Road, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. For a fee — $15 in advance or $20 the week of the sale — early bird entry begins at 7 a.m. Despite its name, this fundraising event has more than just baby items; it’s an outdoor yard sale packed with gently used (and occasionally brand new) items for babies, kids and teens.
Fish with friends | St. Luke’s United Methodist Church is sponsoring a free Fall Fishing Fair at Suson Park, 6073 Wells Road, from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. The designated meeting spot it the Spindler Shelter. A free lunch of hot dogs, chips, desserts and lemonade will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and a valid fishing license is required for anyone 16 – 65 years old. Connect with others | The Gateway Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers’ Society (IPMS) will present its 19th annual model contest and vendor swap meet at the Affton Elks Lodge #2635, 6330 Heege Road, from 9 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. This will also serve as the IPMS/USA Region 14 Contest. The model contest has 40 categories, including 10 “Best of” awards. A special category celebrates “Golden Age: 1975,” for model kits available in 1975. The category celebrates Gateway Chapter’s 50th anniversary this year. Additionally, there will be hobby vendors and a raffle of model kits and supplies, with proceeds benefitting the club. Recycle old electronics | The Sunset Hills Parks and Recreation Department and Adonis Recycling have teamed up to offer the community the opportunity to recycle unwanted or broken down electronics from noon to 5 p.m. at Watson Trail Park, 12450 W. Watson Road. All items should be brought to the recycling truck in the parking lot by the tennis courts. Smoke detectors, household batteries, light bulbs, refrigerant-containing material, ballasts with PCBs, gas-powered lawn equipment and large home appliances (including washers, dryers and large refrigerators) are not accepted. It should also be noted that some items cost a few dollars to be recycled. For more information on what is accepted or associated fees please contact Adonis Recycling at 866-496-6991 ext 3. This event will go on rain or shine!
