Sons of Union Veterans to hold remembrance

The Sons of Union Veterans will hold a 56th Colored Infantry Remembrance with a ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

The event will honor the lives of the 175 members of the Colored Infantry, who are buried at Jefferson Barracks.

The men served the Union to rid the country of slavery and restore the republic, but they died of cholera in August 1866.
