Due to the high volume of applications received since opening in October, the St. Louis County senior property tax freeze system requires an update, pausing the application process until Nov. 18.
Applications closed Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. with the system expected to reopen Nov. 18 at 8 a.m.
Those who already have appointments with the Department of Revenue over the next few days should be able to keep those appointments, but otherwise, the system will be shut down. The shutdown means no one will be able to apply online or in person at any of the county buildings.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is the unintended consequence of standing up what has been a very popular program,” Director of Revenue Tony Smee stated in a press release. “The demand is great, and we now need to improve the customer service experience.”
Smee stated there had been “slowdown issues” with the system, based on the high number of applications – over 30,000 since the program launched. With the upgrade, the system should perform faster and provide a smoother experience for residents.
