Ronnie’s is opening again soon, after being shut down since March due to the coronavirus.

The South County movie theater will open Friday, Aug. 28, as part of a phased rollout of theater reopenings in the St. Louis area.

Marcus Theatres announced the opening of the following theaters in the St. Louis area, starting as soon as this Friday, Aug. 21, with St. Charles Cinema and Eagles Landing Cinema opening. Outside of St. Louis, the Marcus theaters in Cape Girardeau and Lake Ozark will also open this Friday.

The following week, Ronnie’s Cinema in Sappington, Arnold Cinema, Des Peres Cinema, O’Fallon Cinema, Chesterfield Cinema and Town Square Cinema will open Friday, Aug. 28 as the next step of the movie chain’s phased rolled out.

The reopening comes as both Ronnie’s location in Sappington and Arnold were identified last week as a regional coronavirus hotspot by the St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force. Cases have continued to rise at double or triple the rate of other St. Louis County ZIP codes since then.

All the theaters will feature enhanced protocols in accordance with current local health and safety guidelines, Marcus said in a news release. Masks will be required for everyone except when eating or drinking. St. Louis County requires employees of businesses to wear masks. The theater will also require social distancing, offer app and website ordering for low contact advance ordering and will have “thorough” cleaning and sanitizing at an increased frequency than before, especially for high-touch surfaces. Food orders can also be made on the app or website, marcustheatres.com.

Marcus said to stay home if you’re feeling sick or have any symptoms of COVID-19. A refund can be given if necessary. Employees will undergo a wellness check prior to their shift and will wear face masks and gloves. Plexiglas has been placed in transactional areas. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the facility.

Based on a survey of Marcus Theatres’ Magical Movie Rewards members, 97 percent of theatre-goers at the reopened locations approve of the cleaning and social distancing protocols, and more than 98 percent feel comfortable and safe watching a movie in the auditorium.
