Public hearing set for county redistricting

The St. Louis County Reapportionment Commission will conduct a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, July 18, in the Lindbergh Room at Lindbergh High School, 5000 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

The Reapportionment Commission is constituted in accordance with requirements of the St. Louis County Charter. The commission’s sole charge is to draw new boundaries for St. Louis County Council districts based upon the results of the 2010 U.S. Census.

The purpose of the public hearing is to obtain citizen comment on new boundaries for the seven County Council districts.

The meeting is open to the public and will include a period at the end of the agenda for citizen comments. Comments also can be sent to the commission by email at redistrict@stlouisco.com.

The 14-member commission is composed of one Democrat and one Republican from each of the county’s seven council districts.

The commission members are appointed by County Executive Charlie Dooley from lists provided by each party’s central committee.

Commission members are:

• 1st District – Former State Rep. Donald Calloway, D-Bel-Nor, and Sarah Davoli, University Township committeewoman, Republican.

• 2nd District – Rhoda Gwaltney, Democrat, and Becky Buwalda, Airport Township committeewoman, Republican.

• 3rd District – Former State Rep. Sam Page, D-Creve Coeur, Democrat, and Jeff Yorg, Republican.

• 4th District – James McHugh, Democrat, and Bryan Koen, Florissant Township committeeman, Republican.

• 5th District, Art Martin, Democrat, and David Stokes, Republican.

• 6th District, former St. Louis County Councilman Jeff Wagener, Democrat, and former State Rep. Jack Goldman, Republican.

• 7th District, Francis “Butch” Miller, Democrat, and former State Rep. Allen Icet*, R-Wildwood.

Calloway and Icet serve as commission co-chairs.
