UPDATE: Boil order lifted for Crestwood, Sunset Hills

UPDATE%3A+Boil+order+lifted+for+Crestwood%2C+Sunset+Hills

Update: The boil order was lifted about 4 p.m. Sunday.

Missouri American Water has issued a precautionary boil order for much of Crestwood and Sunset Hills.

A reverse 911 call is going out now to customers affected, the utility said around 10 a.m. Saturday.

A water main break at Watson Plaza Drive, leading to a low-pressure event, caused the advisory.  The advisory affects approximately 5,500 customers.

Technically, the boil advisory is only advised, not required. But the utility requests customers to take the same step of boiling their water that they would under a boil order. See this document for more details on an order versus an advisory: Missouri American Advisory-vs-Order Fact Sheet

Customers can visit the MoAm website to see if their home is affected. Find the link here:  http://moaw.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=32d0086bd3e743a3b521425dcb2813c6

This is the third boil order to be issued for part of Crestwood or Sunset Hills this summer, due to various reasons.

What to do

Missouri American is asking customers affected to boil their water for three minutes before using it for drinking or cooking. Tap water is OK for washing, bathing and other non-consumable uses. The utility will take water quality samples in the area Saturday.

The precautionary boil water advisory will be in effect until those samples confirm that the water remains safe for consumption. Precautionary boil water advisories can last 24-48 hours. The company will call residents again when the boil water advisory has been lifted. For more information, please visit The Call’s website or social media.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” MoAm said in a news release.

The precautionary boil advisory is required because of regulations regarding water pressure in our system. In this instance, water pressure dropped to a level that requires the company issue a precautionary boil advisory.

Water quality tests will be run as soon as the broken main is repaired.
