Patriot’s grave marker to be dedicated Sunday

Patriots grave marker to be dedicated Sunday

A ceremony to dedicate the grave marker of Revolutionary War patriot Samuel Kennerly will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, in Memorial Section B at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road.

The ceremony will be hosted by the Olde Towne Fenton Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Kennerly, for whom Kennerly Road and Kennerly Elementary School have been named, was buried in the Old Post section of the cemetery, but his marker deteriorated and was lost over time, so his exact resting place is unknown.

His descendants and the Olde Towne Fenton Chapter requested that Veterans Affairs place a memorial marker in the memorial section of the cemetery.

A reception will follow the ceremony. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be in Committal Shelter No. 6.
