Open house slated June 20

The Mehlville Fire Protection District will sponsor an open house Saturday, June 20, for its new No. 2 firehouse at 5434 Telegraph Road.

During the open house, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors will be able to tour the new station.

Paramedic Pumper 1722 and Ambulance 1727 will be available for public inspection when crews are in quarters.

Children will be able to take home a goodie bag of fire prevention and safety materials. Children also will be able to meet fire/medics and see how they live and work in the firehouse.

Construction of the new station was completed in March. The new firehouse was built without a tax-rate increase or bond issue. Fire/medics moved into the new facility in late April from the old firehouse, built in 1957, at 5610 Telegraph Road.

Mehlville’s new 6,554-square-foot fire house is an energy efficient building. Built with three engine bays, it was designed for future expansion, if necessary. The station was built to facilitate the operational needs of the district while providing a safe and comfortable work environment for the crews, according to a district news release.

It was designed to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye and cosmetically fit well into the neighborhood.

The bottom line for the district’s Board of Directors was to be fiscally responsible to taxpayers when building the new firehouse, the release stated.
