One-percent salary increase awarded to Lindbergh Schools administrators

Budget reductions totaling $4.7 million OK’d by board for current school year.

All Lindbergh Schools administrators received a 1-percent salary increase for the 2010-2011 school year with the exception of Superintendent Jim Simpson, who was awarded a 5-percent pay hike.

But Simpson announced earlier this summer that he would donate back to the district his 5-percent raise for the 2010-2011 school year.

The superintendent’s salary for the current school year totals $214,987.50, but he donated 5 percent — $10,237.50 — back to the district. That money can be used for student programs that have been eliminated as a result of budget reductions.

For the previous school year, Simpson was paid $204,750, up from his 2008-2009 salary of $195,000.

With the exception of the superintendent, administrators receive the same benefits as other district employees, such as an insurance package that includes health, hospitalization, dental, vision and life benefits.

For the current school year, the Board of Education approved more than $4.7 million in budget reductions and eliminated roughly 60 positions, including 45 teaching positions. The more than $4.7 million in budget reductions were premised on the possibility of a 2-percent salary increase, but Lindbergh National Education Association members agreed to a 1 percent salary increase for the current school year, which allowed six full-time classroom teaching positions to be reinstated.

All employees, including administrators, received the same pay increase as teachers.
