Olivia K. Burmeister

Died: Sunday, January 06, 2013

Olivia K. “Livy” Burmeister, 94, died Jan. 6 at the Laclede Groves Convalescent Home.

Mrs. Burmeister was born to Arthur Martin and Liode Kroenke Kuehnert Jan. 25, 1918, in Muskogee, Okla.

At the age of 3, her family moved to North St. Louis, where the Rev. Kuehnert pastored Ebenezer Lutheran Church for more than 50 years.

The younger sister of Arthur Kuehnert (Marion) and older sister of Lois Meyer (Richard) and Eunice Fritz (John), she attended Beaumont High School and Rubicam Business School and was active in the Walther League, where she met the love of her life, Charles Burmeister.

They were joined in marriage by Mrs. Burmeister’s father in 1941 and blessed with five children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who loved her dearly. “Livy,” as she was lovingly known by friends and family, maintained glorifying the Lord as her top priority in life and, thereby, blessed many with her selfless service.

Besides secretarial employment, which she fit around her cherished roles of wife and mother, Mrs. Burmeister volunteered at Lutheran Hospital, Feed My People, the Laclede Groves Retirement Center and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Headquarters for missions and other departments.

She taught Sunday School at Webster Gardens Lutheran Church, belonged to the Ladies’ Friendship Circles and the Senior Fellowship Group there, and used her sewing skills to make quilts for World Relief.

She put her warm hospitality into action by often welcoming Concordia Seminary Students and traveling missionaries into their home.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Charles Burmeister; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Harvey Hanneman, Jan Burmeister and Jill and Dave Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Barb Burmeister. Mrs. Burmeister was preceded in death by her son, Don Burmeister.

A memorial service will take place at a later date.
