A youth movement is underway for the Oakville girls golf team as they enter the 2023 season with zero seniors on the squad. Thought that does not necessarily mean that 2023 is a rebuilding year for the Tigers.
“Things are looking very promising for us this year,” Oakville head coach Emily Baker said. “We are really counting on our three returning golfers this year to be our leaders.”
Junior Colby Durham returns for her third season with the program and will be relied upon to be one of the team’s leaders.
“With this being her third year on the program, we’re looking for her to be a leader on the team,” Baker said. “She comes into the year very focused.”
Sophomore Ava Ross returns for her second year with the Tigers after winning the Lindbergh Invitational as a freshman.
“Ava played a lot of golf this summer,” Baker said. “We’re looking for her to post some low scores for us this season.”
Another sophomore to keep an eye on this season will be Olivia Wideman.
“Olivia played a lot of golf over the summer and the winter and has developed a brand new swing,” Baker said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing what she can do this year.”
Baker is also interested in seeing how sophomores Ava Manasco, Aubrey Silly and Addison Endermuhle perform after having one season under their belts.
“All girls played a bit over the summer and they’ve definitely improved a lot since last year,” Baker said. “We’ll be looking for any of them to be our low fourth score out of our six golfers on varsity.”
Oakville began the 2023 season Tuesday, Aug. 29th at the Webster Scramble at Quail Creek Golf Course.
