The Oakville girls tennis team is experiencing a good amount of growth this season as the Tigers have their largest roster in the past several years.
“It’s a really great team and a fun group of girls to coach,” head coach Cora Stout said. “We have a lot of returning players and more people came out to the team than we’ve had in the last three or four years.”
Senior Alyssa Kedro will be one of the Tigers’ two co-captains this season.
“Alyssa’s a strong player and is also a good leader with a cool head on her shoulders,” Stout said. “She’s easy to work with and I think that she’s really stepped up to be a leader on this team.”
Oakville’s other co-captain this year is senior Jenna Vavak.
“Jenna’s increased her tennis skills since last season. She’s been practicing a lot in the offseason,” Stout said. “She also does a great job on building team spirit and strengthening team morale.”
Juniors Lexi Hailey and Elmedina Elijazovic are also expected to be strong in the Tigers’ singles and doubles lineup.
“Lexi is an impressive player who’s got good form and has the stamina to last through long, difficult matches. One thing that I like about her is that she knows how to self-correct in the middle of a match in order to improve and win those matches,” Stout said. “(Elmedina is) a naturally athletic player with a powerful serve. She works well with other players in doubles play as well as being a strong singles player.”
The Tigers started their 2025 campaign on Sept. 2 at home (Bernard Middle School).
