Janet H. Halbauer (née Heitzmann), 87, died on Oct. 6, 2026.

Janet, known as “Muckie” to most who knew her, was the brightest and kindest soul you would ever meet. She was a loving person who welcomed everyone who walked in the front door like family, whether she knew you for five years or five minutes. Muckie shined the most when she was around those she cherished. Muckie was always a bright spot in anyone's day, creating a home filled with love and laughter that she loved to share with anyone she could. A frown near her was met with a hug, a smile and a well-placed joke to get you laughing again. She loved to craft, working with flowers, painting and all things colorful. Whether it was knitting, sewing or crochet, there was very little Janet could not make with the right pattern and some patience. All year long, she would make afghans and blankets to donate to the Veterans Hospital and baby blankets for Hand2Hand, sharing all she could with anyone who might need a smile that day.

Janet was a loving and devoted wife to James Halbauer for 70 years, as well as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt.

Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Heitzmann, and her grandson, EJ Raterman. She is survived by her husband, James; her two daughters, Penny and Gail; along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
