Obituary For James W Bryant
U.S. Veteran. Burial Date: August 30, 2019. James (“Jim” or “Billy”) William Bryant, 87, of Mehlville, passed away Aug. 27. Beloved husband of Barbara L. Bryant for 63 years; dear father of Paul (Barbara) Bryant and Deborah Smith; beloved grandfather of Donna, David, Daniel and Dana Bryant and Alex and Haley Smith. Dear brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He was born Sept. 4, 1932 in Cape Girardeau to the late William and Eva (Kassel) Bryant. Jim was preceded in death by one son, James Gregory Bryant, and his brother, Larry Bryant. He proudly owned his insurance agency Bryant-Bond-Pyatt for 40 years until his retirement with his wife. Jim proudly served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the 97th Wing, 506 Fighter 8th Air Force guarding B-29s, B-50s and F-84s. An active member of the community, Jim was a charter member of the Mehlville Lions Club, past president of the Missouri Insurance Agency Association, Lemay American Legion Post 162, Korean War Veterans Chapter 1 and the Roosevelt High School Alumni Association. Jim enjoyed collecting food and helping feed people with the Affton Christian Food Pantry until he was unable to serve. Jim will be remembered as a man of faith, integrity, kindness and strong work ethic who did the best for his family and friends. Our family would like to thank the hospice caregivers at Mercy Hospital South and the Mehlville Fire Protection District for all of their kindness and care during Jim’s illness. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at Salem Lutheran Church in Affton, 8343 Gravois Road, Friday, Aug. 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at St. Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, 2160 Lemay Ferry Road, followed immediately by a funeral luncheon at Salem. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Concord Seminary-St. Louis or Salem Lutheran Church.
