Ellen Jill Barr (née Baker), 72, died on Aug. 17 in Poway, California.

Ellen was born on July 9, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in teaching from Webster University. Ellen taught for 24 years in the Ferguson, Rockwood and Mehlville School Districts, retiring from Oakville Middle School in 2015.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Daness Baker and Frances Evelyn Bradshaw; and her sister, Sharon Baker.

Ellen is survived by her daughters, Holly Chase (Marcellus), Emily Burneson (James) and Erin Packard (Daniel); her grandchildren, Julianna, Percy, Elaine, Bennett, Daniel, Dallin, Darren, Carson, Tyler and Jaxson; her sister, Susan Thomas; her nephew, Tony Rodriguez; and her niece, Rhonda Crumpler. She is also survived by her former spouse, Michael Barr (Barbara), and sister-in-law, Diana Barr.

As a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ellen served faithfully in a variety of church callings, including temple worker, youth leader and nursery leader. Ellen loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, all things science, her St. Louis Cardinals, learning, reading, and family time, especially time spent with her grandbabies.

A memorial will be held at 10:30 am on Sept. 5 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6740 Loughborough Ave.
