Obituary For Bettie Jean Hammel (née Baker)

Bettie Jean Hammel (née Baker), 96, died on June 13.

Bettie was born on Dec. 15, 1929, to the late James A. Baker and Hasel Baker (née Capps). She married Homer E. Hammel on Nov. 16, 1946. He passed away on July 22, 2016, after 69 years of marriage.

Bettie retired from Sperreng Middle School. She belonged to Red Hats and attended the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield.

Survivors include Larry (Chris) Hammel, of Roy, Washington; Kirk Hammel of St. Louis; Scott (Kathy) Hammel, of St. Louis; her 14 grandchildren; her 24 great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Bill (Melba) Baker of Dexter, Missouri, Martha Walker (the late Freeman) of Bloomfield, Missouri, and Shirley (Jerry) Dempsey of Farmington, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Homer, her daughter, Sharon Hessler (June 21, 2019) and a brother, Ed Ray.

The visitation and funeral were held on June 18 at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri, immediately followed by a burial at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
