The Oakville High School running track and football field closed on Monday so that the track surface can undergo maintenance and the turf on the football field can be replaced.
“The track is used by a lot of walkers during the summer months, so we apologize for the inconvenience,” the district said.
Walkers can use the tracks at Buerkle Middle, Bernard Middle, Oakville Middle, Washington Middle and Mehlville High.
When the Oakville High track reopens, the new surface will be sprayed a lighter color in order to reduce some of the heat generated by the current black surface.
The track and football field are expected to reopen in early July, but weather and other factors mean the district is not yet sure when that will be. The district plans to keep the public informed throughout the construction project.
