Jim Mohan of Oakville has been named grand marshal of the 25th annual Ancient Order of Hibernians Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Monday, March 17.

The parade gets under way at 12:30 p.m. in the Dogtown neighborhood of South St. Louis. Mohan was one of the original organizers of the Hibernian parade and has served as publicity chairman of the event since its inception in 1984.

Mohan is the chief of public affairs of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency — the former Defense Mapping Agency Aerospace Center — and has been a member of the Missouri Air National Guard for more than 35 years. He currently is the chief of public affairs for Joint Forces Head-quarters, Missouri National Guard.

“This year’s parade features almost 110 marching units and colorful floats featuring the contributions of the Irish people to America,” parade organizer Jim Sheerin stated in a news release. “Like traditional Saint Patrick’s Day parades held in Ireland, many St. Louis Irish will march under their family crests and banners.”

The AOH parade passes through one of St. Louis’ oldest Irish neighborhoods. The parade will start south of the Tamm Avenue overpass at Oakland Avenue, traveling south on Tamm Avenue, past St. James the Greater Catholic Church and will end at Manchester.
