Two Oakville High students set to play in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra

Oakville High School senior Madison Hassler and junior Colin Akers were selected to play in the audition-only St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra for the 2018–2019 season.

The orchestra features players aged 12 to 22 from 40 schools all over the bi-state region, according to a news release.

Both Madison and Colin are returning members.

They also played in the orchestra during the 2017-2018 season.

Madison has previously performed with the All-Suburban Orchestra at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival, and Colin has previously played in Webster University’s Young People’s Concert Orchestra and in the horn sections of the St. Louis All-Suburban Band and the Missouri All-State Band.

The St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra presents three free concerts to the public, and two of their performances from the last season will be aired on Channel 9.

The orchestra’s performance of “Sibelius No. 2” will air at 5 p.m. Aug. 5, and the orchestra’s performance of Symphonie Fantastique will air at 5 p.m. Nov. 4.
