MSD offers low-income assistance program

The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is offering an expanded Low-Income Sewer Assistance Program to qualified single-family home owners who receive sewer service from MSD.

Under the expanded program, eligible homeowners receive a rate reduction equal to 50 percent of their current charges for wastewater and/or storm water services on their monthly bill, according to an MSD news release.

To qualify for the program, applicants must have a total annual income that is less than 125 percent of the Health and Human Services’ most recent poverty guidelines by size of household.

Applicants must also own and reside in their properties full time, have liquid assets and real estate of less than $3,000 — excluding house of residence — and the service name on the sewer account must be that of the applicant or his/her spouse. Only single-family residences are eligible.

Rate reduction for qualified applicants begins on the first full month following approval.

No rate reduction is provided for partial months.
