Most Mehlville administrators receive 3-percent pay hikes

Most Mehlville School District administrators and directors have received 3-percent salary increases for the current school year.

Salaries for Central Office administrators for the 2010-2011 school year are:

• Deputy Superintendent Eric Knost, $139,444, up from his previous salary of $135,383.

• Assistant Superintendent-Supervision of Instruction Vicki VanLaere, $123,701, up from her previous salary of $120,098.

• Assistant Superintendent-Curriculum Connie Hurst-Bayless, $132,416, up from her previous salary of $128,559.

• Assistant Superintendent-Supervision of Schools Brian Lane, $118,450, up from his previous salary of $115,000.

• Assistant Superintendent-Human Resources Lisa Counts, $71,070, up from her previous salary of $69,000. She will not work full time, but 0.6 time.

As previously reported, the Board of Education recently rescinded a three-year contract with Superintendent Terry Noble and approved a new, one-year agreement that provides for a 6-percent base salary increase. The board voted 6-0 in closed session Aug. 19 to rescind Noble’s previous contract and approve a new pact that increases his base salary to $192,798 from $181,912. Board Vice President Venki Palamand was absent.

Noble said in July that he would give up the three-year contract the board unanimously offered him in March that would have increased his salary by roughly 24 percent — from $181,912 to $226,000.

Salaries of high school principals and assistant principals for the 2010-2011 school year are:

• William Scheffler, Oakville Senior High School principal, $121,998, up from his previous salary of $118,445.

• Janet Anthony, Oakville High assistant principal, $105,097, up from her previous salary of $102,036.

• Brian Brennan, Oakville High assistant principal, $89,610, up from his previous salary of $87,000.

• Janet Kellerman, Oakville High assistant principal, $105,852, up from her previous salary of $102,769.

• James Kern, Oakville High assistant principal, $94,534, up from his previous salary of $91,781.

• Angelo Colona, Mehlville Senior High School assistant principal, $105,852, up from his previous salary of $102,769.

• Denise Driscoll, Mehlville High assistant principal, $108,493, up from her previous salary of $105,333.

• Alicia Landers, Mehlville High assistant principal, $91,860, up from her previous salary of $89,184.

The school board earlier this year voted to extend a one-year contract to Denise Swanger to serve as principal at Mehlville High. She will be paid $115,000 in 2010-2011.

• Pollie Richardson, SCOPE/SSLCMS principal, $109,659, up from her previous salary of $106,465.

Middle school principal and assistant principal salaries for 2010-2011 are:

• Phillip Milligan, Bernard Middle School principal, $106,090, up from his previous salary of $103,000.

• Lori Weber, Bernard Middle assistant principal, $83,670, up from her previous salary of $81,233.

• John Weber, Buerkle Middle School principal, $103,000, up from his previous salary of $100,000.

• Ross Bullington, Buerkle Middle assistant principal, $87,241, up from his previous salary of $84,700.

• Mike Salsman, Oakville Middle School principal, $108,251, up from his previous salary of $105,098.

• Patrick Bellinger, Oakville Middle assistant principal, $83,670, up from his previous salary of $81,233.

• Adam Smith, Washington Middle School principal, $103,000, up from his previous salary of $100,000.

• Patrick Keenoy, Washington Middle assistant principal, $86,180, up from his previous salary of $83,670.

Elementary school, early childhood and alternative education principal salaries for 2010-2011 are:

• Kristy Roberts, Bierbaum Elementary principal, $107,558, up from her previous salary of $104,425.

• Tina Plummer, Blades Elementary principal, $113,849, up from her previous salary of $110,533.

• Scott Clark, Forder Elementary principal, $95,790, up from his previous salary of $93,000.

• Scott Andrews, Hagemann Elementary principal, $111,737, up from his previous salary of $108,483.

• Chad Dickemper, Oakville Elementary principal, $95,790, up from his previous salary of $93,000.

• James Walters, Point Elementary principal, $109,674, up from his previous salary of $106,480.

• Donna Wagener, Trautwein Elementary principal, $105,594, up 7 percent from her previous salary of $98,635.

• Jeffrey Bresler, Rogers Elementary principal, $110,210, up from his previous salary of $107,000.

• David Meschke, Wohlwend Elementary principal, $99,472, up from his previous salary of $96,575.

• Kathleen Fuchs, John Cary Early Childhood Center principal, $110,606, up from her previous salary of $107,384.

The board also extended a one-year contract to Andrea Deane for the post of Beasley Elementary School principal. She will be paid $95,000 for the 2010-2011 school year.

Board members approved the following certified director salaries for 2010-2011:

• Executive Director-Special Services Scott Hayes, $107,861, up from his previous salary of $104,719.

• Laura Grayson, director of elementary curriculum, $73,025, up from her previous salary of $70,898.

• Sherri Lange, director of career and technical education, $78,025, up from her previous salary of $75,752.

• Barbara Ehlen, director of Parents as Teachers, $75,384, up from her previous salary of $73,188.

• Sarah Johnson, director of Title 1 and remedial reading, $77,385, up from her previous salary of $75,131.

• Roberta Morris, director of learning resources/instructional technology, $91,034, up from her previous salary of $88,383.

• Rebecca Czuppon, director of activities, $80,340, up from her previous salary of $78,000.

The board also extended a one-year contract to Mark Catalana for the position of director-alternative education. He will be paid $62,000 in 2010-2011.

Board members also approved the following 2010-2011 classified director, assistant director, coordinator/supervisor and lead nurse salaries:

• Noel Knobloch, chief financial officer, $123,033.50, up from his previous salary of $119,450.

• Lisa Furey, director of accounting, $69,010, up from her previous salary of $67,000.

• Steve Habeck, director of facilities, $85,000, up 15 percent from his previous salary of $73,877.

Keith Henry, executive director of support services, tendered his resignation earlier this year. Rather than replace Henry, his responsibilities have been split up among the superintendent, deputy superintendent, director of facilities and others, Noble said.

However, only Habeck has received a pay increase for taking on the extra duties, Noble said.

Noble said the restructuring would save the district an estimated $50,000.

• John Tucker, assistant director of facilities, $56,689.14, up from his previous salary of $55,038.

• Michael Gegg, mechanical supervisor, $54,071.91, up from his previous salary of $52,497.

• Katie Koester, director of school food and nutrition services, $62,830, up from her previous salary of $61,000.

• Mary Ann McKinney, coordinator of school food and nutrition services, $52,783.38, up from her previous salary of $51,246.

• Diane Wedel, director of transportation, $67,247.67, up from her previous salary of $65,289.

• Sharon Smallenberger, assistant director of transportation, $56,468.72, up from her previous salary of $54,824.

• Joseph Huster, fleet maintenance supervisor, $49,131, up from his previous salary of $47,700.

• Steven Lee, director of information technology services, $103,838.80, up from his previous salary of $100,960.

Lee’s previous salary included a base of $95,960 plus a $5,000 stipend for manning the sound system at school board meetings.

• Steven Meyer, assistant director of in-formation technology services, $60,949.22, up from his previous salary of $59,174.

• Emily McFarland, director of communications, $64,066, up from her previous salary of $62,200.

• Robin Anderson, communications coordinator, $43,054, up from her previous salary of $41,800.

• Susan Bland, lead nurse, $46,154.30, up from her previous salary of $44,810.

The school board also approved a 3-percent step increase for all classified employees for 2010-2011.

Board members adopted the 16-step salary schedule for each salary group, specific to particular jobs in the district, in June 2009.

Hourly rates for the district’s classified employees for the 2010-2011 school year range from $9.34 for a starting school food and nutrition services technician to $37.98 for a network administrator on the 16th salary step.
