A number of elections – including fire, municipal and school boards, as well as multiple local and county-wide propositions – were decided on April 8.
Incumbent Chris Volz was defeated by Steve Davila for the open Affton Board of Directors seat by a vote of 55.6% to 44.4%.
Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors incumbent Ed Ryan secured his fourth term, defeating challengers Fred Baumgarth and Steven Mossotti. Ryan received 56.1% of votes, while Baumgarth and Mossotti received 11.7% and 32.2%, respectively.
Every South County proposition — Affton School District Proposition 1, Green Park Proposition A, Marlborough Proposition L, and Marlborough Proposition M — passed.
St. Louis County Proposition B, on the other hand, did not pass, with 61.8% of voters voting “no.”
Both Lindbergh Board of Education incumbents, Jennifer Miller and Julia Voss, were successful in keeping their seats. Miller received 34.4% of votes and Voss received 34.1% of votes. The other candidates in the race – Russell Dahmer, David Randelman and Martin VerPlank – received 10.9%, 16.9% and 3.7%, respectively.
In Mehlville’s race of newcomers to public office, Serene Wilkinson and Ann Zimpfer were victorious. Zimpfer had the highest number of votes in the race, sitting at 37.6%, with Wilkinson following at 25.3%. The other candidates in the race – Mick Johnson Jr. and Megan Paule – received 16.9% and 20.3%, respectively.
As far as municipal elected officials, Megan Gadallah won the Crestwood Board of Aldermen Ward 4 seat over Steven Liddy and Marie Davis won the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen Ward 2 seat over Sheila Vita. Both Gadallah and Davis won their races with over 60% of the vote.
Kevin Kelso, Walter J. Rust and Kurt Voss were victorious in the Grantwood Village Board of Trustees race, while incumbent Mark Kienstra lost his seat. Kelso recieved 26.5% of the votes, Rust recieved 27.4% and Voss, the most popular candidate, received 31.5%. Kienstra earned the remaining 14.7%.
No election was needed for the Crestwood aldermanic seats held by Jim Zavist of Ward 1, Mike Balles of Ward 2 and Greg Hall of Ward 3; Green Park aldermanic seats held by Carol Hamilton of Ward 1, Tammy Witzig of Ward 2 and Joe Monteleone of Ward 3, as well as the mayoral seat held by Tim Thuston; or Sunset Hills aldermanic seats held by Brian Fernandez of Ward 1, Greg Colombo of Ward 3 and Fred Daues of Ward 4 as the incumbents were the only candidates to file for the seats.
The seats held by Jordan Levinson and Michael McNeil on the Affton School District Board of Education were slated to be up for election, though as McNeil and newcomer Joe Krabbe were the only two candidates to file, there was no election held. McNeil and Krabbe will fill the two open seats carrying three-year terms.
Seats held by Shannon Kohler and Michelle Padgett on the Bayless School District Board of Education were also slated to be up for election, though as the incumbents were the only candidates to file, they will keep their current seats.
Similarly, two Hancock Place School District Board of Education director seats were up for election, though as incumbents Jennifer Kossman and Tony McMahon were the only two candidates to file, no election was held. Both seats carry three-year terms.
