Karen Hoover, a kindergarten through 5th grade counselor at Wohlwend Elementary in the Mehlville School District received a $500 grant May 11 through Western Governors University Missouri’s “Fund My Classroom” initiative. The money will be used to add a “Bird Buddy” bird feeder to the schools outdoor space, giving students the opportunity to observe, identify and learn more about local birds. Hoover learned she was selected when she was surprised with a check presentation at school.
The project was one of 43 across the state chosen by WGU Missouri to receive funding out of 200 nominations.
The feeding box allows students to watch live and recorded videos of birds that visit the feeder.
