Mehlville schools ready to set the pace at foundation’s 18th annual Walk-Run

The Mehlville-Oakville School District Foundation is anticipating a great crowd and great weather for the 18th annual Walk-Run that will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Jefferson Barracks Park.

All Mehlville schools will participate in a lively spirit competition before a panel of honorary judges from the Board of Education, Central Office administrators and corporate business sponsors.

Each year, the children and teachers come up with themed songs, cheers, dances and props to show their enthusiasm for their school.

School mascots show off and band members play the musical accompaniment for the songs and dances. Spirit awards will be presented at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Awards based on participant percentages and highest number of paid participants also will be presented.

Participants will wear their Walk-Run T-shirt with the winning design by then-Trautwein Elementary pupil Alan Dzafic.

After the spirit competition, all are invited to walk the Fitness Trail with their friends, family and teachers.

Tim Ezell of KTVI and Bierbaum Elementary Principal Steve Langhorst will serve as co-masters of ceremonies.

Proceeds from the Mehlville-Oakville School District Foundation’s Walk-Run are used to provide teacher mini-grants, scholarships and tutoring for district students.

Donations to the Mehlville-Oakville School District Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) charity, can be made by calling the School/Community Relations Office at (314) 467-5152.
