The Mehlville Board of Education is hosting its annual tax rate public hearing Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Bernard Middle School, 1054 Forder Road.

Citizens will have the chance to voice their opinions on the rates during the meeting.

According to the agenda for the meeting, the district’s total tax revenue is estimated at $81.7 million, an increase of $3.4 million than originally budgeted.  The increase in revenue is due to personal property assed values increasing 31.5 percent from the previous year, or roughly $94.5 million. According to the agenda, this “increase is unprecedented.”

The new rates under consideration by the board Tuesday are:

  • Real estate — residential: $3.4158
  • Real estate — agricultural: $4.4090
  •  Real estate — commercial: $3.9075
  •  Personal property: $4.5061
  • Blended rate: $3.6784

The blended rate is not levied but is used to compare the district to other school districts, and is a combination of the residential, commercial, agricultural and personal property tax rates.

The blended rate will be split among funds in this way:

  • General (Incidental) fund: $1.3519
  • Special (Teacher’s) fund: $2.1000
  • Capital: $.1065
  • Debt Service: $.1200
  • Total: $3.6784
