Mehlville poster contest winners announced

Mehlville High School Senior Tina Ly recently won first place in a poster contest celebrating Black History Month, according to a school district news release.

The poster contest, sponsored by the high school’s new Building-Wide Diversity Committee, offered cash prizes to the top three entries.

Ly received $100 for her first-place poster, a montage of famous African-Amer-icans such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Oprah Winfrey and Harriet Tubman.

Second-place honors went to freshman Godiva Reisenbichel. Her hand-drawn colorful poster featured Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech. Reisenbichel picked up a $30 cash prize for her entry.

Sophomore Patrick Wallace Jr. earned third-place honors for his poster portraying the importance of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier. Wallace re-ceived a $20 cash prize.

Matt Kamp, Wai-Ming He, Lauren Dicus and Laura Kunz were presented with honorable-mention certificates for their posters.

In all, nearly 40 posters were submitted.
