Mehlville, Oakville high school journalism students earn honors

Ten Oakville High School and six Mehlville High School journalism students won awards at the Sponsors of Student Publications Spring Conference write-off competitions at Webster University.

Oakville High Prowl staff member Jessica Schubert earned three Honorable Mention awards at the conference in Opinions, Features and Sports Writing. Other Prowl staffers earning awards were Stephanie Ward (Best of Show — Inside News Design), Kelly Lautenschlager (Excellent — Opinions Writing), Ashley Glatz (Honorable Mention — Feature Writing) and Ally Stanton (Honorable Mention — Feature Design).

Mehlville High School Student Prints newspaper staff member Rebecca Kim brought home a pair of Honorable Mention awards in Sports Design and Sports Writing. Other Student Prints award winners were Jessica Rapp (Honorable Mention – Newspaper Writing), Sarah Bailey (Excellent — Newspaper Writing), Lauren Soltyk (Honorable Mention — News Writing), Jeff Sachs (Honorable Mention — News Writing) and Stephanie Kukuljan (Excellent — Opinion Writing).

Oakville High Tiger Paw staff members picked up two awards at the conference. Jessica Wolfangel earned a Superior award in Photography; and the team of Jenn Icenhower, Rachel Schallom, Julie Blessing and Hillary Scott won an Honorable Mention in Sports Design.

The Prowl also received an Excellence Award for overall publication, Student Prints received an Award of Merit for overall newspaper and Tiger Paw received an Award of Merit for the 2005 yearbook.
