Mehlville Board of Education approves multiple bids for facilities

The Mehlville Board of Education considered and accepted two facilities bids May 19 — a bid to renovate Bierbaum Elementary School’s entrance, as well as asphalt repair.

The board approved a $5.39 million bid with Wright Construction Services for the construction of a secure entry vestibule and other front entrance upgrades at Bierbaum Elementary. The bid includes professional and contingency fees.

The project is part of Proposition S, the $35 million no-tax-rate increase bond measure passed last April to fund the installation of secure entry vestibules at all of Mehlville’s schools, in addition to other facilities improvements.

Facilities Director Mike Gegg told the board the district had worked with Wright Construction Services in the past for the construction of Mehlville High School’s auditorium in 2013.

Asphalt repair

Asphalt maintenance is included in each year of the Facilities Department’s five-year plan. The asphalt work is paid through the department’s capital budget.

The board approved a $221,143 bid with McConnell & Associates, which was the only bid submitted to the district. It includes professional and contingency fees.

Gegg said it is unusual to only receive one bid for asphalt work but after reaching out to 12 different contractors, everyone else was too busy.
