Mayoral candidates to meet March 23 at forum

A forum for the two Crestwood mayoral candidates will be sponsored by the Gra-vois Township Republicans Wednesday, March 23, at the Crestwood City Hall, 1 Detjen Drive.

Mayor Tom Fagan and former Alderman Roy Robinson are seeking election April 5 to the mayoral post, which carries a three-year term. Robinson has agreed to participate in the forum, according to Gravois Township Republican Committeeman John Winston.

A social period will begin at 7 p.m. with the forum starting at 7:30 p.m.

Fagan is seeking re-election after winning election in August to fill the remaining six months of the term of former Mayor Jim Robertson, who resigned in January 2004. Prior to serving as mayor, Fagan was a Ward 4 alderman since 1993.

Robinson, who served as a Crestwood alderman from 1988 to 1992, unsuccessfully ran in the August mayoral election.

Robinson said he will not participate in a candidate forum that would have been co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters and Call Newspapers and moderated by the League of Women Voters.

Robinson said he will not participate in the Call forum because of statements made by then-Acting Mayor Richard Breeding at the July forum, noting Breeding’s comments drew a rebuke from the League of Women Voters.

The Call still plans to conduct the forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Crest-wood Community Center in Whitecliff Park.

The Call will be the sole sponsor of the Crestwood forum, which will be moderated by Call General Manager Bill Milligan, as the League of Women Voters, the Lindbergh School District and the Call will co-sponsor a forum for Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors candidates that same evening.
