Local lawmakers take up collection for tornado survivors, volunteers

Several state representatives in the St. Louis area are coordinating a collection drive for survivors of the recent Joplin tornado and for those volunteering in the search and rescue and cleanup efforts.

For The Garden by Haefner’s Greenhouse has provided a truck to transport donations to the Joplin area. No donation is too large or too small, and the representatives hope to have several loads ready to go in the next couple of days, according to a news release.

The most needed items are:

• Non-perishable food

• Baby food and formula

• Diapers, wipes

• Personal care items

• New or gently used toys and books

• Water and juice

Donations can be dropped off at:

• For The Garden, 6703 Telegraph Road, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

• Town and Country Municipal Center, 1011 Municipal Center Drive, at the back of the building, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
