Three Lindbergh High School seniors were among 88 high school students who recently graduated from the 2014 Students and Teachers as Research Scientists, or STARS, program, at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Seniors Ann Iverson, Igi Vilza and Joshua Wiedner assisted top research mentors from the area. The students worked in labs, attended lectures and participated in social events on and off campus, according to a district news release.
Research papers completed by the Lind-bergh High students included:
Iverson — “Effect of TAK1 Inhibition on Colon Cancer Cells,” Dr. Rachel Delston, Confluence Life Sciences.
Vilza — “Verifying the Intercalation of 3-Substituted Naphthalimide Derivatives Complexed with DNA and RNA,” Dr. Brent Znosko and Elizabeth Jolley, St. Louis University.
Wiedner — “Preparation of Nanostruc-tured Gold Film (NGF) for Use in Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance Studies of Lectin-Carbohydrates Interactions,” Dr. Keith Stine, University of Missouri-St. Louis.
