Lindbergh High school sophomores Emma Powers, Tom Ebert and Josh Wiedner have been selected to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy from June 9 through June 29 at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The Missouri Scholars Academy is a three-week academic program for 330 of Missouri’s gifted students who are ready to begin their junior year in high school. To be selected as one of Lindbergh’s three possible academy candidates, students must submit two essays and take an intelligence test, according to a district news release. Grade-point averages and ACT scores are also a factor the selection process.
While at the academy, students pursue a major and minor course of study, and enjoy a variety of other intellectually engaging and social activities. With a carefully selected faculty and staff, a specially designed curriculum that focuses on liberal arts and a variety of stimulating extracurricular activities, the academy enables students to be part of a unique learning community.
“Every year, students come back from MSA with memories, experiences and friendships that last far longer than the program’s three weeks,” gifted resource teacher Megan Roegner stated in the release.
